Dili, March 7th 2019: His Excellency Prime-Minister Taur Matan Ruak stated that before March 18th 2019, the Government will be able to pay the ConocoPhillips and Shell shares of petroleum activities in Greater Sunrise fields, since the payment process in proceeding at a good pace, based on the agreements signed between both petroleum companies and the Government.
“We must pay this month, and since the process is running quickly, I hope that before March 18th it is already possible to have the payment resolved”, the Head of Government respond to the journalists, after the weekly meeting with Head of Estate, in Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace.
The Head of Government highlighted that, this oil exploration is crucial to maintain State long-term life, bringing economic and social benefits to the East Timor people and contributing to reduce unemployment in our country. If the Government does not start the exploration in the Greater Sunrise field, the petroleum funds will terminate rapidly, whereas there are no other funds that contribute to the petroleum fund.
Responding to the opposition parties concerns about the risks of the option to bring the pipeline to Timor-Leste, the head of Government stated: “A huge risk for Timorese people is dead! We faced dead, for what? To get the Independence! Why don’t we assume the risk? Those who are not brave to take risks, will never succeed in life, individually and also to the nation and the people”.
For that reason, the Head of Government appealed to the citizens, civil society and all people to give to this Government confidence in managing pipeline canalizing process to Timor-Leste, so that it will bring economic and social benefits to Timor-Leste. END
