Brief words from His Excellency the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Taur Matan Ruak at Cocktail on the occasion of the Meeting with Development Partners for Regional Economic Integration
MNEC, Díli, 28th July 2021
Ladies and gentlemen
Distinguished guests
It is a great honour for me to be able to share this Social Cocktail on the occasion of the Meeting with Development Partners for an Integrated Regional Economy, at a time of hope, more positive and progressive easing of restrictions at the national level.
A meeting that for three days invites us to discuss the need to jointly overcome the recent crises caused by the socio-economic impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic and further aggravated in recent months by natural disasters.
When we refer to and use the best international examples, we see that the search for solutions necessarily involves a broad and comprehensive discussion in order to strengthen cooperation with development partners.
A discussion that intends to take advantage of the new cycle of hope that marked with the beginning of the implementation of the National Vaccine Plan and which now allows us to review the Strategic Plan for the National Development, taking into account the measures, goals, objectives and plans that best adapt to, and serve the reality of the country.
I, therefore, invite all of the development partners, national and international, bilateral and multilateral, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the cooperation agencies to join the efforts of the Government and the country, in promoting and contributing to the resumption of activities and economic recovery in favour of development, economic growth and productivity.
A discussion that does not end in the three working days of the Meeting with Development Partners, but one that will contribute to promoting the discussion of new ideas, in a digital transformation, innovation and entrepreneurship, capable of mobilizing society, companies and operators around the broader plan and budget options, which are approaching for the Fiscal Year of 2022.
A discussion that intends to renews the commitment and determination of the VIII Constitutional Government, in the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to fight poverty, hunger and malnutrition, and, simultaneously, to promote the economic and social well-being of our people, citizens and communities.
A discussion that purposefully reaffirms our common vision of developing a more resilient, sustainable, tolerant and peaceful Timor-Leste!
Therefore, I would like to, on behalf of the Timorese People and the State, represented here by the National Parliament, the Government, the private sector and civil society organizations, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all the partners of this Forum.
I would also like to offer to all the friendly peoples represented here, bilaterally or multilaterally, our sincere thanks for your continuous support, solidarity and generosity, in these most difficult times of pandemic and natural disasters, which encourages us to face the future with optimism and hope!
I end this by inviting you all to join us in a toast, wishing for a modern and prosperous Timor-Leste! For a wealthier, Stronger and Safer Country!
Thank you and God Bless all of us
