Dili, March 18th, 2021 – The COVID-19 pandemic, which has spread worldwide, including Timor-Leste, not only has negative effects on people’s health but has also socio-economic negative effects, worldwide, causing in an almost stop of development, an effect that is also felt in Timor-Leste.
Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, acknowledged that this COVID-19 pandemic also has an impact on the internal development process. The development is not completely stopped, but there are some limitations, due to this pandemic.
“The development process is stalled due to COVID-19. As you can see, the Government did not just present a budget and sit to watch. The Government wants to execute the budget, stimulate development, provide services to its citizens. Fortunately, the economy has not stopped completely, but we have some limitations due to this outbreak (COVID-19)”, explained the Head of Government, this Wednesday, March 17th, in response to journalists, after the weekly meeting with the Head of State.
However, the Head of the Government is hopeful that this difficult situation will be overcome, and, thus, the development processes may return to normal, according to the programs provided in the 2021 Budget. END/M-PMO
