SPEECH OF HIS EXCELLENCE THE PRIME MINISTER OF THE TIMOR-LESTE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC
TAUR MATAN RUAK
ON THE RECEIPT OF RECEIVING THE STATE AND GOVERNMENT HEADS
MINISTRY OF FINANCE, AUGUST 30, 2019
Your Excellencies Heads of State, Heads of Government, and other Dignitaries
Ladies and gentlemen
It is a great honour and satisfaction, for Timor-Leste, for the VIII Constitutional Government, for me and for my wife Isabel, to welcome you, dear friends, Ladies and Gentlemen, Heads of State and Heads of Government, to whom I greet with immense joy.
I also greet the delegations accompanying you, reaffirming all our warmest welcome and wishes of a good stay.
It is with great pleasure that we gather in this room, under the celebrations of the Popular Consultation (Referendum) and the INTERFET’s Mission twentieth Anniversary, in a historic year of great significance and importance for all Timorese.
I take this opportunity to express you the deep and genuine feeling that unites us in this truly festive celebration.
- A Feeling of Friendship, for the generous and continued support and investment in our Nation;
- A Feeling of Gratitude, for the fulfilment of our dream of independence and for the consecration of the International Law of People’s Self-determination.
We are building the future, working to fulfil the wishes of all Timorese for a better life.
In the last days, your Excellencies have witnessed and heard about the recent progress of our development and, at the same time, have seen a new image of Timor-Leste, with peace, security and stability.
However, we still have a lot of work to do, and we will continue to count on your precious help and support, to overcome the remaining challenges.
In anticipation of the end of the celebrations and the date of your departure, we hope that you will continue to keep in your hearts the fond memories of welcoming in our country and by our people.
Lastly, I ask you to make a toast, together, for sustained progress in Timor-Leste, in a climate of open friendship, cooperation and solidarity between our Countries and Peoples. END
