Brief Remarks of His Excellency the Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak on the Swearing-in of the New President of the RAEOA, Mr. José Luís Guterres (Transcript)
Dili, November 13th, 2019
Dear distinguished guests,
Good morning everyone!
It is with great pride that today I sworn in the President of Authority of the RAEOA (Special Administrative Region of Oé-Cusse-Ambeno), after, as the President of the Republic, having sworn in Maun Boot Mari Alkatiri, as an ideologist of the RAEOA/ZEESM.
The Oé-Cusse project is, in fact, a national project, a project that has been moving very fast since it was created up to the present. We have done a lot of things, but there are many things we have not done yet, and on what we have achieved, I would like, here and now, to personally convey my appreciation to the Interim President, through Your Excellency, and your entire team, especially to our Maun Boot Mari Alkatiri, for his efforts to nurture Oé-Cusse to become herself today.
Obviously, Mr. President, the new team goes there, but it will not go to do all over again. You are going to continue what the previous team has done. Whatever is good, we continue to improve, what is bad, we change, and what is not well, we adjust over time, but always tied to the idea that has just been mentioned by the President of RAEOA today: respond to the need and aspirations of the Oé-Cusse people. Our dream is this one, ensuring that the children of Oé-Cusse could benefit from the development we have already done there.
Naturally, the Central Government, all my team, we are ready, we are open to welcome you, any time you and your team needed our help, our support, both during the transition and beyond, we are ready to keep helping and support as much as we can, so that the rhythm of our activities there (Oé-Cusse) does not stop, does not slow down.
As might be expected, our financial resources are limited, we have more demands, all municipalities demanded, all ministries demanded. Ultimately, our great dilemma is how to distribute fairly. Of course, we have only a single idea, everyone should get what they deserve, depending on the existing conditions and realities, but above all, the Government would only provide based on the available resources.
However, once again, I would like to say that, we, the Central Government, are ready to keep helping your team so that activities in Oé-Cusse, as in Ataúro, which is also part of this region, do not stop.
For this reason, once again, on behalf of my name, on behalf of the governing team of the VIII Government, we appreciate the willingness of Mr. José Luis Guterres to take this responsibility. We are also grateful to the Interim President, who has offered his willingness to lead this transition until the position is handed over to the newly-appointed, and I would like to ask you, please, convey my gratitude to the entire team there (Oé-Cusse) for the efforts and dedication so far, so that their names would continue to be mentioned around our country.
Mr. President, once again, you can count on us, the total support of the Government to this new project, in this new venture.
