Message from His Excellency Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, on the occasion of the National Women’s Day
Government Palace, November 3rd, 2020
Today is a special day for Timorese women, the day the Government chose as Timor-Leste National Women’s Day, coinciding with a great heroine, Maria Tapó’s dead date. It is an honour to all Timorese women who, with all their dedication and courage, stood up together with the heroes, in the fight against foreign occupation, during 24 years, which allowed our country to be FREE and INDEPENDENT.
November 3rd is a reflection day, for us to think about our women’s important role in the national development process, in which they were engaged during the liberation struggle.
So, looking at the women’s important role, the Government created the Secretary of Estate for Equality and Inclusion, which work in cooperation with the women’s organizations, to see how it could support and appreciate the women in the national development process so that women do not feel they are left behind.
Therefore, I take the opportunity of this day, on behalf of the 8th Constitutional Government, and on my personal behalf, to congratulate all Timorese women on this very special day. The Government is committed to placing people at the center of development, so it will make every effort to involve women in our country’s development process.
Long live Timor-Leste Women!
Strong Women, Strong Nation!
