Díli, 2nd July 2019. His Excellency, the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, Taur Matan Ruak, received, in an audience, this Tuesday, in the Government Palace, the ambassador of Cuba to Timor-Leste, M. Oscar Genaro Coet Blackstok, and exchanged views on bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking to journalists, after the audience, the Cuban ambassador explained that the meeting with the Head of Government aimed to discuss the bilateral cooperation between both countries. He also said that he hoped that a meeting would soon be held, focusing specifically on cooperation in the field of human resources empowerment for health sector.
“The Governments of Cuba and Timor-Leste are going to set out an agreement for the empowerment of Timorese doctors. The relationship between both countries is on a good term”, said the Cuban ambassador.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries, Cuba has qualified 984 Timorese doctors, who currently provide medical assistance to the population in different villages. In addition to that, Cuba also sends medical specialists to provide medical care to the population.
Currently, there are 30 Timorese medical students studying in Cuba, doing cardiology, oncology and orthopaedics majors. End
