PM TAUR MATAN RUAK HELD A FAREWELL GATHERING WITH THE JAPANESE AMBASSADOR

Dili, 16th August 2019: The Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, received this Friday, in the Government Palace, the farewells from the Ambassador of Japan to Timor-Leste, Hiroshi Minami, due to the assignment of a new mandate by his Government, in Japan.

The Head of Government took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Ambassador Minami for his great effort in supporting the Government of Timor-Leste during his mission in this country, namely his efforts related to the reconstruction of the President Nicolau Lobato International Airport.

Meanwhile, the Ambassador also thanked the cooperation and amicable relationship showed by the Government and the People of Timor-Leste, on his mandate as Ambassador in Timor-Leste.

The Ambassador Hiroshi Minami presented his credential letters to the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste on October 17th, 2017, and, according to plans, he will leave Timor-Leste in the mid of September this year.

Japan has been a major donor to Timor-Leste, in various sectors, since the restoration of independence on May 2002, and the most recent support from the Japanese Government has been the announcement of a $41 million rehabilitation fund, to the rehabilitation of the President Nicolau Lobato International Airport.
