Dili, June 18th, 2021 – His Excellency the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, received in audience, this Friday, in the official residence, at his official residence, in Farol neighborhood, the President of EDTL E.P., Paulo da Silva and the President of BTL, E.P., Carlos dos Reis, accompanied by Minister of Public Works, Salvador Soares dos Reis Pires. In this audience, the Prime Minister gave guidance to the two leaders to implement the electrification and potable water supply systems in the communities and, especially in the Ataúro Administrative Post, since the Government foresees that in 2022 Ataúro will become a special municipality. For this reason, before Ataúro officially becomes a municipality, support sectors, such as electricity and potable water must be prepared, because the two sectors are very important for the people of Ataúro.
“The purpose of this meeting with His Excellency the Prime Minister was to share some information about the electricity and potable water services. Regarding electricity, His Excellency asked for a plan for the island of Ataúro. Today I informed His Excellency that this year we are going to promote electrification projects for three sucos: one, for the maintenance of the existing lines, in Beloi, and two other new projects for the sucos of Maquili and Macadade. I also explained a little about the electrification plans for the future”, said the Chairman of EDTL, E.P., Eng. Paulo da Silva.
Regarding the potable water supply subject, the President of the BTL, E.P., Carlos dos Reis, explained that this year the BTL, E.P. is in a position to finalize the design of the potable water supply system in Ataúro, and hopes that by the end of this year it will be possible to launch construction.
“Bee Timor-Leste plans, this year, to finalize the design of the potable water supply system for the Ataúro Administrative Post, and I hope that by the end of this year construction can already begin throughout Ataúro, and especially in the center. Unfortunately, because of the situation of COVID-19 and the Sanitary Fence, we have not yet been able to go there, due to the restriction of movements. We have been in these new functions for a short period of time now, and so far we have been more focused on services such as staff recruitment. Then we will prepare the management systems, to guide us, and we will also focus on the old projects that need to be audited, in order to make payments. So, our team is currently more focused on the supervision of the old projects, especially in the Municipalities of Liquiçá, Ermera, Bobonaro, Suai, Ainaro, Aileu, and Same. A fortnight ago we concluded the inspection and we hope that when the reports arrive we can make the payments to all those who supported the Government in the implementation of the potable water supply projects.” said the President of BTL, E.P.
