Dili, April 15th, 2020 – His Excellency, the Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak, this Wednesday, granted the first audience to the new Ambassador of Japan to Timor-Leste, KINEFUCHI Masami, who has just presented the credentials letters to His Excellency the President of the Republic, replacing his predecessor, the Ambassador Hiroshi MINAMI.
At the event, the Head of State welcomed and congratulated the new Ambassador of Japan for his appointment as the new Ambassador to Timor-Leste, and at the same opportunity, thanked Japan for his support to Timor-Leste’s development over time. The Head of State also explained the Timorese Government’s efforts in fighting against the Coronavirus Outbreak or COVID-19, which is now considered a global pandemic that concerns all countries around the globe.
Meanwhile, Ambassador KINEFUCHI Masami, thanked a lot for this meeting, although it was not in a good time due to COVID-19 situation, but as a new Ambassador, he stated that he is ready to support Timor-Leste through bringing in support from Japan in order to continue the programs that the two Governments have already planned and agreed upon. One of these programs is related to the International Airport President Nicolau Lobato’s expansion, as well as other programs, which will be resumed when the outbreak of COVID-19 ends.
The Ambassador also praised Timor-Leste’s effort in fighting COVID-19. The Japanese Government has contributed a sum of financial support of US$ 869,400 thousand dollars channeled through UN Organisation, UNICEF and $125,000 channeled through IFRC to fight against COVID-19. END
