PRIME-MINISTER TAUR MATAN RUAK WELCOMES THE VISIT OF THE AMERICAN CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION

Dili, July 29th, 2019 – H.E, Prime-Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, on Monday in Government Palace, welcomed the visit of the delegation of the United States Congressional, where would be led by the Chairman House Democracy Partnership, David Price and accompanied by the U.S. Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Kathleen Fitzpatrick. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Timor Leste was accompanied by the Minister of Legislative Reform and Parliamentary Affairs, Fidelis Leite Magalhães.
In this friendly meeting, the Head of Timorese Government was pleased to welcome the congressional delegation, and on behalf of the Timorese Government thanked American People and States for the support that has given to Timor-Leste in the last 20 years, such as in education, agriculture, tourism, health sector, etc.
The visit of the American Congressional delegation in Timor-Leste, to reaffirm the U.S. commitment to continue working with Timor-Leste in strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
The American Congressional from the U.S. House of Representative with their spouses and family member visited Timor-Leste from July 28th to 30th, as a part of long-term commitment in the House Democracy Partnership program. The program that meets American legislator and all Timorese to work together in order to strengthen the relationship between both countries.
. During their stay in Timor-Leste, the delegation also met with the President of Republic, President of National Parliament, Vice President of National Parliament, the Chief of Parliament Benches and Parliamentary Women Group, the delegation also had an opportunity to meet the women political leaders and businesswoman, young leaders and civil societies.
The Congressional delegation who met with the Prime Minister were: David Price (Chairman) Vern Buchanan (Vice), David Cicilline, Gerald E. Connelly, Susan Davids, Neil Dunn, John Rutherford, Terri Sewell. Ends
