Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak receives courtesy visit from the CPLP team of observers to the Presidential Elections
The satisfaction that the Presidential Elections in Timor-Leste were conducted in a civil and transparent manner
Dili, April 21st, 2022 – His Excellency the Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak received this Thursday, at his official residence, at Bairro do Farol, a courtesy visit of the Observers team from the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP – Portuguese acronym) to the 2022 Presidential Elections, for an exchange of views on this electoral process.
In this meeting, the team of CPLP observers expressed their satisfaction regarding this electoral process, which took place with calm and civility, being also very transparent. Therefore, taking this opportunity, the observers, on behalf of the CPLP peoples, congratulate the Timorese people for the serenity and civility during the electoral process, considering it a great example to the world.
The CPLP observers also appreciated and congratulated the electoral bodies, STAE and CNE, which organized the elections in a very professional and transparent manner, with no disruption or complaints from voters or candidates.
Lastly, they thanked the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, for the invitation from the Government of Timor-Leste to be observers of the presidential elections in Timor-Leste.
For his turn, the Head of Government thanked the presence of the CPLP observers, as well as observers from other countries, who accompanied the process of these 2022 presidential elections in Timor-Leste, both in the first and second rounds, and were able to learn about the mechanisms of the electoral processes in Timor-Leste.
The Head of Government also explained the difficulties that the Government faced in preparing for the elections, due to the impact of COVID-19, having, however, made every effort to ensure that this electoral process ran as smoothly as possible. END
