2021 General State Budget Proposal approved in the overall vote

Dili, December 3rd, 2020 – The General State Budget (GSB) for 2021 was approved in an overall vote, this Wednesday, by the National Parliament, with 44 votes in favour and without votes against neither abstentions, since the 21 deputies from the CNRT Bench left the room and did not vote. This vote came after three days of debate, which started on Monday afternoon.
In his speech before the vote, His Excellency the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, expressed his satisfaction with these three days of overall debate and underlined that the 2021 GSB is important to help the country out of the economic recession and boost the growth of the economy.
“The Government was pleased with the 2021 General State Budget overall debate and deeply thanked the Members of the Parliament’s contribution, during the three days of debate, which enriched our discussion. The 2021 General State Budget is important to help our nation out of recession and to stimulate economic growth, to create jobs and income for our families and our workers”, said the Chief Executive.
Therefore, and taking this opportunity, the Head of Government, on behalf of the 8th Constitutional Government, thanked all the Benches for their interventions during the overall debate.
“The Government remains committed to making an effort to enrich the discussions that will follow in the detailed debate, to obtain the approval of this great house, the National Parliament. That is why, on behalf of the 8th Constitutional Government, I want to thank all the support that the distinguished Members of the Parliament, from all Parliamentary Benches, gave to the Government’s effort in presenting the 2021 GSB.”, stressed the Prime Minister.
The 2021 GSB has a total amount of US$ 1,895 million, of which US$ 541 million is for social capital, US$ 457 million is for infrastructure development, US$ 338 million is for economic development, and US$ 470 million is for consolidating the institutional framework.
