Dili, September 10th, 2020: His Excellency the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, chaired, this Thursday, at Government Palace, a meeting with the Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Planning and Territory, José Reis, and the Minister of Public Works, Salvador Soares dos Reis Pires, to analyze the infrastructure projects that will be implemented in the 2021 fiscal year.
The purpose of this meeting was to provide the Chief Executive with more information on ongoing projects, so that they are aligned with each other, as a priority, in order to define their budgetary costs and to bring this information for discussion in the Budget Review Political Committee (CPRO Portuguese acronym), which will take place before the submission of the 2021 General State Budget to the National Parliament, on October 15th.
The infrastructure projects that have been discussed include roads, electricity, education, and drinking water, whose resources are concentrated in the CAFI.
“Today, His Excellency convened me and the Vice Prime Minister, to review the ongoing projects, as well as new projects in the infrastructure area. We came here to present ongoing projects and new projects related to Public Works, namely projects in the electricity, roads, and drinking water areas. This is what we have been analyzing, in order to be able to make a selection of the projects that will be discussed in the Budget Review Political Committee, in a week or two, to define the amount of investment in infrastructure” explained the Minister of Public Works, Salvador Soares dos Reis Pires, to the journalists, at the end of the meeting.
At the meeting, the Head of Government gave guidance to the Minister of Public Works to reinforce the inspection controls of the ongoing projects on the ground, to guarantee their quality and so that these infrastructures can last, and, furthermore, also requested that the Minister force companies that are building such infrastructures to meet the deadlines set in their contracts.
Besides the Prime Minister, the Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Planning and Territory and the Minister of Public Works, the meeting was attended by the new President of ADN, Renato Mariano Monteiro, the President of CAFI, and the Ministry of Plan and Territory technical team . END/PMO
